A Patient’s Journey After Losing a Tooth
Mark, a 52-year-old patient from California, lost a lower molar after years of dental problems. At first, he decided to leave the space alone because he could still eat normally.
Several months later, Mark noticed that chewing on that side was becoming uncomfortable. He also noticed that the teeth around the empty space were becoming more difficult to clean.
During his dental examination, his dentist evaluated the neighboring teeth, gum health, and available jawbone. After discussing the options, Mark learned that he could consider a dental implant, a fixed bridge, or a removable partial denture.
Because the neighboring teeth were healthy and Mark wanted a long-term, fixed replacement, he chose a dental implant. After the implant healed and integrated with the jawbone, his dentist placed a custom crown.
Mark was pleased with the result because the replacement tooth felt stable and allowed him to chew comfortably again.
His experience also taught him an important lesson: there isn't one best solution for every missing tooth. The right choice depends on your oral health, bone condition, treatment goals, budget, and personal preferences.
A dental examination is the best way to determine which tooth-replacement option may be appropriate for you.
